What I did was wake up rather early for some pancakes that my dad made. I was incognito to trick my mom.
After breakfast I got ready for church. I really like my outfit-I chose it myself.
I met Father Patrick Masang-he has an amazing singing voice.
We had a late lunch of Kenny Rogers Roasted Chicken.
Right after lunch I got ready to go to the PIT STOP COMMUNITY CAFE to serve dinner to the homeless, urban poor and the marginalized-that means a person who is treated as not important.
The dinner tonight was sponsored by my family and some of mom and dad's friends. We always lots of good food to eat-it was nice to get smiles from others for once. We brought along 100 packets of Cream Crackers which the PSCC uses whenever they run out of food like they did on Christmas eve and the 50 pieces mosquito coil and 50 toothbrushes for children donated by Bangsar Village towards Project Tikar.
The first job I was given by Miss 'Boss' Aishah was to remove the tags from the blankets and the sleeping mats. Tonight there will also be a 'free market' giving out slippers, blankets and sleeping mats.
Me and Ms.Boss Aishah sorting out the blankets and mats.
The menu for tonight's dinner was bread with kaya, yummy looking muffins, eggs, chicken porridge, noodle porridge, oats with pecan porridge, green bean and red beans porridge. I was in charge of cutting up the rolls, laying them onto the tray and during dinner I was serving out the muffins.

Hands are sanitized and getting my gloves on to maintain hygiene.
At sharp 5.30pm the shutters of the PIT STOP is up.Everyone is Standing in line waiting patiently. They are given a number and Ms.Joycelyn briefs them on the do's and don'ts-this is for the benefits of the new ones. She wishes them a good meal and in they came.Ms.Ann one of the other volunteers is in charge of the bread and spreading them on and to also keep an eye that none of them uses their hands to pick the food. I too helped with the spreading of the kaya on the bread, handing out the egg and muffin on a serviette.
Everybody gets one egg only. They can choose what they want to eat or all. They are given one plastic bowl and spoon which is free. If they come for another plastic bowl and spoon they will be charged RM1.20, but everyone uses their free bowl when they come for seconds or thirds. There is no limit to the amount of portions of food they can have. All they have to do is stand back in line to be served. They are not allowed to cut in line.
Ms.Andrea was in charge of counting the Street Friends that came in. She had 3 clickers-one to count the men, the other to count the women and another to count the number of portions served.
The line was busy but there was no pushing, everyone was polite, and they all said Thank you or Terima Kasih and I replied 'sama-sama' which means you are welcome.
Even everyone was done and they had their meal -they walked about with a satisfied smile.By 7 pm it was all quiet again. After that comes the cleaning up-put the pots to be washed in the kitchen, pickup all the rubbish in the surrounding area, wiping the tables and putting up the stools and sweeping up the floor. I was getting ready to eat my own dinner which was a homemade chicken sandwich and I eat it feeling grateful for my meal.
I was glad I was able to help out however small my job was. I know I made a very small difference but if everyone makes a very small difference, it will one day make a large difference.
Caitlin out!
